Kajuru Local Government Area in Kaduna State is once again under the shadow of insecurity after armed men abducted six residents from the Unguwar Barkonu community in Maraban Kajuru.
The attack took place in the early hours of Sunday in Kufana Ward, a few days after the shocking kidnapping of 177 church worshippers in the same region. The fresh incident unfolded even as members of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) were holding prayers for the release of the earlier victims.
Steven Kefas, a resident of the community, described the raid: the assailants arrived around 1 a.m., forcibly entering multiple homes and taking six people to an unknown location. Kefas expressed disbelief that such an incident could occur in a central area of Kajuru, where roads are accessible and some security presence would normally be expected.
“There was no immediate intervention from the authorities. The community was completely left to fend for itself,” he said.
Rev. Enoch Kaura, CAN chairman in Kajuru, confirmed the abductions, noting that the attackers created panic throughout the neighborhood. He explained that once residents began raising the alarm, the bandits fled, taking six people with them.
Kaura warned that these repeated attacks are causing widespread anxiety. “Families are still praying for the 177 worshippers, and now another abduction has happened. The fear in the Kajuru axis is palpable,” he said.
Attempts to reach the Kaduna State Police Command for comment were unsuccessful, as the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Mansir Hassan, could not be contacted, and messages sent to him went unanswered.
