How PSJ UK’s Advocacy Led to the Wilton Park Conference on Peace and Social Cohesion in Nigeria

In February 2020, PSJ UK’s advocacy efforts played a pivotal role in securing a major milestone in international engagement on Nigeria’s security and stability. Through our persistent interventions, advocacy, and strategic connections, we directly influenced the UK government’s decision to convene a Wilton Park conference—a high-level policy discussion platform under the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO).

This conference was specifically organised to address peace and social cohesion in Nigeria, bringing together key stakeholders, government representatives, and experts to discuss practical solutions to the ongoing security crisis and communal conflicts in the country.

Why is this significant?
Wilton Park is a globally recognised space where governments and organisations engage in closed-door diplomatic discussions on pressing international issues. The fact that Nigeria’s crisis was elevated to this level of discussion underscores the impact of our work and the growing recognition of the urgent need for intervention.

Through this platform, we helped bring Nigeria’s escalating crisis to the attention of key stakeholders, ensuring that decision-makers and policymakers could engage directly with the realities on the ground.

📢 Want to stay engaged?
We will continue to work tirelessly to ensure Nigeria remains a priority on the global agenda. If you’d like to support our advocacy work, consider making a donation or joining our network of engaged supporters. Together, we can drive lasting change.
