ROLE TITLE: IT AND TEACH TEAM LEAD
DEPARTMENT: IT and Tech
Type: Volunteer
ROLE PURPOSE
The IT & Tech Team Lead will manage the entire information technology framework of the organization, including its digital systems and data processes, to improve program delivery and enhance stakeholder engagement. This role will also ensure that all IT processes put in place will enhance the effectiveness, safety, and innovation in support of personnel, volunteers, and beneficiaries in regards to organizational values and donor requirements.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Leadership & Team Coordination
- Lead, mentor, and support the IT volunteers and staff in ensuring that organizational IT services are provided in a prompt and reliable manner throughout the organization.
- Promote training and knowledge sharing to enhance digital skill within the programs.
- Foster and advance an organizational culture which is broad based and unifying in support of the organizational mission.
Technology Strategy & Support
- Design and operationalize an IT strategy to support organizational programs and ensure compliance with all legal and regulatory obligations.
- Assist partners and field offices with the systems to ensure that they are accessible and usable and provide them with necessary technical support.
- Look for inexpensive but effective digital solutions that can improve communication, efficiency, and program delivery.
Systems & Infrastructure
- Oversee the setup, maintenance, and security of computers, networks, databases, and mobile technologies used in field operations.
- Ensure reliable internet connectivity, data storage, and system performance, even in resource-limited settings.
- Manage IT assets, licensing, and technology inventory.
Data Management & Accountability
- Maintain secure and accurate information systems for reporting, monitoring, and evaluation.
- Ensure compliance with data protection laws and volunteer data management requirements.
- Support programme teams with digital tools for data collection, analysis, and reporting.
Cybersecurity & Risk Management
- Develop and enforce cybersecurity and data protection policies to safeguard sensitive beneficiary and volunteer information.
- Monitor systems for potential threats and lead responses to security incidents.
- Ensure NGO operations meet local and international compliance standards.
Innovation & Digital Transformation
- Research and introduce innovative, cost-effective technology solutions that improve service delivery and impact measurement.
- Champion digital inclusion by ensuring technology is accessible to staff, volunteers, and beneficiaries.
- Explore opportunities to use technology for advocacy, awareness campaigns, and volunteer engagement.
Key Competencies & Skills
- Strong leadership and people management skills in multicultural and nonprofit environments.
- Excellent problem-solving, adaptability, and resourcefulness in low-resource settings.
- In-depth knowledge of IT infrastructure, data management systems, and cloud technologies.
- Understanding of NGO operations, donor compliance, and field-based challenges.
- Ability to train and build capacity among non-technical staff.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and project management skills.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field (Master’s degree an advantage).
- Relevant certifications (e.g., ITIL, CompTIA, Microsoft, Cisco, or data protection certifications).
- Minimum 5 years of IT experience, with at least 2 years in a leadership role within nonprofit/NGO or development sector.
- Experience supporting field teams, digital data collection, and reporting systems.
- Familiarity with open-source, low-cost, and scalable IT solutions.
