At PSJ UK, our commitment to justice and security extends beyond humanitarian aid—we work tirelessly to amplify the voices of affected communities at the highest levels of government. Through regular advocacy meetings with government ministers, parliamentarians, and shadow ministers, we ensure that the challenges facing persecuted and displaced communities in Nigeria remain firmly on the agenda of policymakers.
Recent Key Meetings & Strategic Engagements
-
Meeting with Wendy Morton (Shadow Minister for Africa)
PSJ UK was invited to discuss the escalating security challenges in Nigeria with Wendy Morton, the Shadow Minister for Africa. We raised urgent concerns about the ongoing violence and the lack of adequate protection for vulnerable communities. Encouragingly, we have seen these issues reflected in recent Parliamentary questions and engagements, demonstrating that our advocacy is making an impact. Wendy has since raised these concerns in the House of Commons and remains open to further dialogue with us. -
Meeting with Lord Collins (Minister for Africa)
In a productive meeting with Lord Collins, we emphasised the need for comprehensive policy reforms and stronger international support for Nigeria. The discussion focused on security, governance, and the protection of fundamental freedoms, particularly for communities facing religious persecution and displacement. -
UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) Consultation on Africa Approach
As part of the UK government’s ongoing consultation on its future engagement with Africa, PSJ UK was invited to contribute perspectives from faith-based and diaspora communities. We provided insights on governance, economic development, and security, ensuring that the realities on the ground inform UK foreign policy towards Nigeria. -
(Re-)Establishment of an APPG on Nigeria
We are currently in discussions with parliamentarians about re-establishing an All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Nigeria in the UK Parliament. This APPG will serve as a vital platform for sustained dialogue, enabling us to input into policy conversations and advocate for stronger UK-Nigeria relations that prioritise peace, security, and development.
