Weng: A Glimpse of Hope Amid the Pain

Earlier this year, following a brutal attack on Riyom village in Plateau State, members of our State Coordinators team visited survivors receiving treatment in the local hospital. Among the many heartbreaking cases we encountered, one story in particular struck us deeply — that of Weng, a young boy who had survived an unimaginably violent attack.

When our team met Weng, he was still recovering from severe injuries and trauma. His quiet strength and the haunting sadness in his eyes captured the painful reality faced by so many innocent children in conflict-affected communities across northern Nigeria. Despite his pain, there was a glimmer of resilience — a determination to live and to hope again.

Since that visit, we’ve remained in touch with local partners who continue to follow up on his condition. Weng’s physical recovery has been slow but steady, though his emotional and psychological healing will understandably take much longer. Through coordinated support from our partners on the ground, he is receiving ongoing care, medical follow-up, and the compassion of those who refuse to let his story be forgotten.

Weng’s case is not an isolated one. It highlights the devastating impact of insecurity on children and families in Plateau and other parts of Nigeria — communities that live in constant fear of attacks, displacement, and loss. It also reminds us why our work must continue: documenting these tragedies, advocating for justice, and standing alongside survivors in their journey toward healing and restoration.
