Mobilising the Nigerian Diaspora: Building Stronger Sector Communities for Greater Impact

At PSJ UK, we recognise the immense power of collective action. Over the past year, we have been actively mobilising critical UK-based sector communities of Nigerians in the diaspora into cohesive blocs—leveraging their influence, expertise, and networks to drive meaningful change.

One of our key successes has been engaging Nigerian business leaders in the UK through the Power of Unity initiative. This group, formed to strengthen economic collaboration and advocacy, recently met with the UK’s Trade Envoy to Nigeria. The discussions centred on fostering mutually beneficial trade relationships, improving investment opportunities, and addressing economic challenges that affect both the UK and Nigeria.

Similarly, we have brought together a coalition of professionals and stakeholders to engage with the Nigerian Foreign Minister. This strategic mobilisation provided an avenue for direct dialogue on critical diplomatic, economic, and security concerns, ensuring that the voices of the diaspora are heard at the highest levels.

In the technology sector, we took a proactive step by organising a Leapfrog Agenda meeting at the Institute of Directors. This gathering brought together Nigerian tech professionals and entrepreneurs based in the UK to discuss innovation, digital transformation, and strategies for positioning Nigeria as a global leader in the digital economy.

Looking ahead, we remain committed to expanding these sector-based clusters, strengthening diaspora engagement, and ensuring that Nigerian professionals in the UK are not only well-represented but also empowered to contribute meaningfully to Nigeria’s peace and development. By uniting experts from various fields—business, technology, diplomacy, and beyond—we are building a formidable force for change.
