International Organisation for Peacebuilding and Social Justice (PSJ UK) strongly condemns the brutal attacks on Woro and Nuku communities in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State and Faskari Local Government Area of Katsina State on 3rd February 2026. Reports indicate that over 162 civilians were killed in Kwara and at least 25 in Katsina, marking one of the deadliest attacks recorded in Nigeria this year.
As Nigeria counts losses in hundreds and in tears, ‘many’ soldiers have been reported killed by militants from the Islamic State-backed faction of Boko Haram, the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), formerly known as Jamā'at Ahl as-Sunnah lid-Da'wah wa'l-Jihād, in an attack on a military base in Jakana, Kaga Local Government Area of Borno State. On the same day on February 6, another unfortunate incident involving several women occurred in Mbaikyor, Kwande Local Government Area of Benue State, where market women were kidnapped by suspected armed herdsmen attacked.

According to the CEO of PSJ UK, Ayo Adedoyin, declaring emergency response measures is not enough; Nigeria must implement sustained security coordination, prosecute sponsors of violence, and prioritise civilian protection as a core national policy.
PSJ UK describes the killings as crimes against humanity and expresses deep concern over reports that the victims were targeted for resisting extremist indoctrination. PSJ UK acknowledges the Federal Government’s deployment of military personnel but stresses that security efforts must be sustained, strategic, and focused on long-term community protection.
PSJ UK calls for:
- The declaration of a State of Emergency in affected regions,
- Sustained military and intelligence operations to prevent further attacks
- Immediate humanitarian support, including relief materials, trauma counselling, and compensation for victims
- Transparent investigations and prosecution of perpetrators and sponsors
- Strengthened early warning systems and community-based peace-building initiatives
PSJ UK stands in solidarity with grieving families and affected communities. Nigeria must prioritise civilian protection, enforce accountability, and take urgent action to end recurring violence.
