PSJ UK Welcomes 2026 HART Prize Winners, Applauds Spotlight on Nigerian Atrocities

London (23 June 2026) — Following the recent official public announcement by the Humanitarian Aid Relief Trust (HART), human rights organisation PSJ UK extends its warmest congratulations to the winners of the 2026 HART Prize for Human Rights Journalism.

Investigative journalist Mike Odeh James was awarded the grand prize for his harrowing undercover exposé, "Nigeria's Hidden Gulag: Inside the Rijana Camps." PSJ UK also celebrates Second Place winner Mary Kiara and Special Commendation recipient Lawrence Zongo for their vital contributions to human rights reporting.

In a landscape where severe violations in Nigeria’s Middle Belt and northern regions are routinely overlooked by global media, these journalists risked their personal safety to document the truth of these hidden atrocities, demand accountability, and give a voice to terrorised communities.

Ayo Adedoyin, CEO of PSJ UK, stated:

"The critical findings highlighted by Mike Odeh James, Mary Kiara, and Lawrence Zongo underscore the exact horrors PSJ UK works daily to expose. Now that these investigations are in the public domain, they must serve as an urgent catalyst for international policy pressure and legal accountability. We cannot allow these injustices to remain hidden."

PSJ UK is immediately deploying its strategic framework to amplify these vital narratives globally, initiate direct advocacy with relevant authorities, and ensure that frontline human rights journalism drives real-world policy intervention.

The winning pieces can be accessed via the official HART documentation.
