Creating Dignity Through Work — Not Just Relief
Across Nigeria, thousands of families have been uprooted by conflict, violence, and persecution. Many now live in informal camps with limited access to food, healthcare, or meaningful employment. While emergency aid remains essential, long-term dependency on handouts offers little hope for the future.
That’s why PSJ UK is launching a Sustainable Livelihoods Project — aimed at helping displaced families reclaim agency over their lives through income-generating opportunities.
What We’re Doing
We are working closely with local and state authorities to create pathways for displaced people to earn a living and rebuild with dignity. Our initial focus is on farm-based and small-scale business initiatives that are practical, sustainable, and community-led.
Key components of the programme include:
-
Skills Training in agriculture, agro-processing, tailoring, and entrepreneurship.
-
Seed Funding to support the formation of cooperatives and micro-enterprises.
-
Market Access support, so participants can move beyond subsistence and actually generate income.
-
Partnerships with State Governments to ensure alignment with local development plans and attract additional support.
Why It Matters
This project isn’t just about survival — it’s about dignity, resilience, and long-term recovery. By helping displaced people support themselves and their families, we reduce vulnerability to exploitation, rebuild community structures, and reduce pressure on aid systems.
How You Can Help
We are seeking partners to help scale this project in key regions such as Plateau, Benue, Southern Kaduna, and parts of the Middle Belt. Your donation could:
-
Sponsor training for a group of displaced women in tailoring
-
Help set up a farming cooperative with tools, seedlings, and irrigation support
-
Fund trainers and local coordinators to ensure effective programme delivery
Together, we can shift the narrative from displacement and despair to dignity and opportunity.
